John Hall

John Hall was chief executive of Brewin Dolphin plc for over 20 years to 2008. He oversaw a period of considerable growth during this period including buying back the company from SE Banken and its subsequent floatation on the London Stock Exchange, where it became an established member of the FTSE 250 index. During the following years it carried out a number of acquisitions, including those of Bell Lawrie the preeminent Scottish broker private client investment manager and Wise Speke which held a similar position in the north of England.

On retiring from the firm John was, for six years, chairman of the trade association APCIMS.

In 1998 John founded the charity Soundabout which promotes the use of music as a means of communication with severely disabled and autistic children. John is a keen sailor owning a 55 ft  classic yawl.
